La Tejita is a natural beach in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, in the south of Tenerife, very close to the Tenerife South Airport and El Medano Beach and the fishing village of Los Abrigos.
It is a somewhat dark golden sand beach located in a protected natural area, next to the well-known Montaña Roja (Red Mountain), an ancient reddish volcanic crater.
It is a relatively isolated beach 1 kilometer long, which has a small cove enabled as a nudist area. In addition to being friendly to the LGTBIQ+ community.
The waves are usually relatively strong, due in large part to the considerable wind that usually blows.
It is a natural beach, without many services, frequented by both tourists and residents of the island, whether young people, couples, athletes and families.
It is an ideal place not only to take a bath or get wet on the shore, but to take long walks, enjoy the sun, and even practice some water sports.
What services does La Tejita beach offer?
The beach has a parking area and access on foot.
It has trash cans and a hammock rental service.
Near the parking area and the road, there is a paid campsite and camping area.
A few hundred meters walk away, you will find a small shopping center with a restaurant area, or the popular Chiringuito Pirata, a beach bar where you can order some tapas, snacks and drinks.
How to get to La Tejita beach?
The beach is easy to find by car. To get there you must take exit 55 of the southern highway (TF-1) and follow the signs to El Médano. Before reaching the town of El Médano, you will find a roundabout with a signposted exit towards La Tejita.
Near the beach there is also a bus stop. Lines 410 (from Granadilla) and line 470 (which connects El Médano with Los Cristianos) pass through it.
A faster option is to take a taxi, either from El Médano or from any town in the southern area, such as San Isidro, Granadilla, Los Cristianos, Playa Las Américas…
