Pyramids of Güímar is an ethnographic and botanical park located in the centre of Güímar, halfway between the tourist area of southern Tenerife and the metropolitan area.
It has six constructions in the form of stepped pyramids oriented astronomically. On one side they point towards the sunset on the day of the summer solstice, and on the other, towards the sunrise on the day of the winter solstice.
Both the date of construction and the use of the pyramids remain a matter of debate.
According to Thor Heyerdahl, a Norwegian researcher who studied them extensively in 1991, he maintains that they were built as a temple of sun worship by ancient civilizations in years prior to the discovery of the islands.
The park was opened to the public in 1998. It has an area of 67,000 m2.
In addition to the pyramids, it has other attractions:
- ethnographic museum and information centre
- thematic routes
- sustainable garden
- poison garden
- auditorium
- café with panoramic terrace
You can visit the park on your own or book guided tours, available in Spanish, English and German.
You can purchase tickets in advance online, on the park’s official website, or directly at the park on the day of your visit.

How to get to the Pyramids of Güímar?
Being located not far from the centre of Güímar, getting there is relatively easy, although the bus connections are not very good.
By car, take the southern highway towards Güímar, exit 22. When you leave, continue following the signs for the town centre. Continue along the TF-28 through the centre of Güímar until you reach a DISA petrol station, which you should go up (C. Alférez Luis Bertrán de Lis). At the end of this street, turn left onto Av. Venezuela, and then right onto Calle Antropólogo Thor Heyerdahl.
By bus, you can take line 120 that leaves from Santa Cruz and goes to Güímar, or any line in the south of the island that goes to Santa Cruz, get off at the Güímar highway stop, and walk a few meters to take line 120 that goes up from Puertito to Güímar.
Once in Güímar, you will have to walk about 900 meters (almost 15 minutes) to reach the park.
If you don’t have a car, or you want to save yourself connections and walks to get to your destination, you can take a taxi from Puertito, from the centre of Güímar itself or from one of the surrounding towns, and tell the driver that you want to go to the Pyramids of Güímar.
