Pirámides de Güímar, Tenerife

Pyramids of Güímar is an ethnographic and botanical park located in the centre of Güímar, halfway between the tourist area of southern Tenerife and the metropolitan area.

It has six constructions in the form of stepped pyramids oriented astronomically. On one side they point towards the sunset on the day of the summer solstice, and on the other, towards the sunrise on the day of the winter solstice.

Both the date of construction and the use of the pyramids remain a matter of debate.

According to Thor Heyerdahl, a Norwegian researcher who studied them extensively in 1991, he maintains that they were built as a temple of sun worship by ancient civilizations in years prior to the discovery of the islands.

The park was opened to the public in 1998. It has an area of 67,000 m2.

In addition to the pyramids, it has other attractions:

You can visit the park on your own or book guided tours, available in Spanish, English and German.
